Mr.Neil Kimmet

Mr.Neil Kimmet

Hello! My name is Neil Kimmet, and I am the Academic Director of the Qingdao Weiming International Studies Department.

During my seven years with ISD, I have had the privilege of supporting our students, teachers, and families while helping our department continue to develop and achieve excellent results.

In addition to my administrative responsibilities, I teach AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Business with Personal Finance, and Economics. I enjoy helping students connect classroom concepts to real-world decisions. Whether we are discussing market behavior, international trade, entrepreneurship, or personal finance, I want students to develop the knowledge and confidence to think independently and make informed choices.

My educational and professional journey has always been closely connected to international learning. I earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati, where I majored in both Operations Management and International Business and completed the University Honors Global Studies Certificate. I later earned a Master of Arts in International Studies from Concordia University Irvine.

I grew up in Fort Jennings, Ohio, a small town with a population of fewer than 500 people. Although it was a peaceful place to grow up, I was curious about the world beyond my hometown from an early age. When I was 12, I began working on a strawberry farm to save money for a school marine biology trip to the Bahamas. After many long days caring for and picking strawberries, I earned enough to participate in my first international experience. That trip strengthened my desire to explore other cultures and learn more about the world.

At university, I had opportunities to study abroad in Nicaragua and Japan. I also participated in service projects that helped build schools and homes in Haiti, Mexico, and El Salvador. In addition, I supported a project to fund and construct a water collection and filtration system for a village in Cameroon. Alongside my studies and international activities, I worked as a purchasing analyst at Toyota's North American headquarters. These experiences taught me the importance of cross-cultural understanding, teamwork, responsibility, and purposeful leadership.

My career eventually brought me to China, where I first lived and taught in Shanghai. I later moved to Lanzhou, a city with a fascinating history along the ancient Silk Road, and the home of one of my favorite foods, Lanzhou beef noodles During my six years in Lanzhou, I served as the center principal of a British university foundation program and later as an international academic director within the high school's international department.

China has also become an important part of my personal journey. While living in Lanzhou, I met my wife, and we adopted an abandoned dog named Peanut (花生). We later moved to Qingdao, where our daughter Ariana (安安) was born. Qingdao is now the place our family proudly calls home.

Outside of school, I am a passionate sports fan and enjoy both watching and playing many different sports. Soccer has always been especially meaningful to me, and I served as captain of my high school soccer team. I am also a foodie who loves cooking new dishes and tasting foods from different countries and cultures. Fortunately, I am able to utilize these passions within our ISD through practicing with our soccer team during club time, and organizing international food tasting activities for special events.

Adventure is another important part of my life. I hold both PADI Open Water and Advanced Open Water diving certifications and have completed specialty training in shipwreck and deep-water diving. I also enjoy adventure sports and once completed the famous Macau Tower bungee jump, one of the highest commercial bungee jumps in the world.

My journey—from a tiny town in Ohio to universities, service projects, workplaces, and schools around the world—reflects the values that guide me: family, education, hard work, curiosity, and exploration. These are also qualities I hope to encourage in our students.

Every day offers an opportunity to learn something new, take on a challenge, and become a better version of ourselves. At Qingdao Weiming ISD, I am proud to work with a dedicated international team and support students as they discover their interests, develop their abilities, and prepare to make their own mark on the world.
